Nicole Kidman “feels betrayed” by Keith Urban following their split after 19 years of marriage.

The 58-year-old Oscar-winning actress filed for divorce this week in a Nashville court citing “marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences.”

Insiders told TMZ, which was first to break the news Monday, that Urban, 57, initiated the split and that “Nicole did not want the separation and (was) trying to save the marriage.”

Friends in their inner circle added to TMZ that they believe Urban has moved on with another woman.

The Oscar-winning actress and the country music star, both Australian, were married in 2006 and share two daughters — Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.

“Nicole’s hurt and feels betrayed,” a confidante close to the former couple told PEOPLE. “It’s devastating to her. She’s shocked.”

“He has been making questionable choices for some time now, and this was not the case of them just drifting apart,” another source told the outlet. “For those around him, this has felt more like a gradual drift than some big shocking break.”

“Their split is turning dramatic,” another informant said. “She wanted to save their marriage and believed that she could, but it seems he’s already moved on.”

An insider close to the couple told the publication that Kidman, 58, did not want to give up on the relationship in the months leading up to their separation.

“She didn’t want this,” a source told the publication. “She has been fighting to save the marriage.”

“She feels betrayed,” another informant told Page Six of the breakup. “She feels really upset.”

TMZ reported that the four-time Grammy winner may already be dating someone new.

Multiple sources connected to the Babygirl star say “all the signs point to the fact Keith is with another woman. Let’s just say, Nicole doesn’t dispute that, but she’s still shocked over it.”

One leaker says, “It’s all over Nashville.”

A recent lyric change when he played his song The Fighter also raised eyebrows among Urban’s fans when he namechecked his new guitar player, rising country star Maggie Baugh, in a track that was inspired by Kidman.

Baugh posted a clip to her Instagram of Urban singing the number and swapping the lyrics from “When they’re tryna get to you, baby/ I’ll be the fighter” to “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie/ I’ll be your guitar player.”

Of the song, Urban told Billboard in 2017: “It’s all from a conversation my wife and I had early on in our relationship, that when things get tough, I need to hold her tighter and just try to take care of her.”

According to documents obtained by the Associated Press, the pair already have a childcare plan in place.

“The mother and father will behave with each other and each child so as to provide a loving, stable, consistent and nurturing relationship with the child even though they are divorced,” the filing states. “They will not speak badly of each other or the members of the family of the other parent. They will encourage each child to continue to love the other parent and be comfortable in both families.”

Per the AP, the marriage dissolution plan says the two will retain all the assets that are in their own name, including the copyrights and royalties for their artistic work.

Although they spent their summer apart, with Kidman filming Practical Magic 2 in London while Urban hit the road behind his recent High LP, the two had regularly professed their love for one another.

Back in June, Kidman shared a loved-up photo of the pair to celebrate their anniversary, tagging Urban in her Instagram post.

Speaking to Postmedia in 2020, Urban said that the best part of the pandemic was getting to spend more time with his wife and daughters.

“The silver lining has obviously been more family time, which is absolutely priceless and we’ve been really reveling in that as well,” he said.

In 2016, Urban said his marriage to Kidman altered the trajectory of his life.

“Meeting her and getting married wasn’t life-changing, it was life-beginning,” Urban told CBS News. “It was literally like, ‘OK, now life starts.”

When he helped honour her at the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony in 2024, Urban thanked Kidman for standing by his side when his struggle with addictions nearly “blew our marriage to smithereens” early on in their marriage.

“Four months into a marriage, I’m into rehab for three months, with no idea what was going to happen to us,” Urban said. “Nic pushed through every negative voice, I’m sure even some of her own, and she chose love. And here we are 18 years later.”

But earlier this past summer, Urban made headlines when he abruptly ended a radio interview with Mix 102.3’s Hayley & Max in the Morning after he was asked about Kidman filming sex scenes.

“What does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful younger men like Zac Efron having these beautiful love scenes on TV?” host Max Burford asked, which prompted Urban to hang up.

The marriage was the first for Urban, but Kidman was previously married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001. The former couple share two adopted children, Isabella and Connor.
