A 33-year-old man is wanted for an assault in North York on Wednesday.

Toronto Police say officers responded to a call around 5:50 p.m. near Yonge St. and Empress Ave. – north of Sheppard Ave. – where it’s alleged the victim was walking in the area when a man approached from behind and assaulted them.

The victim, who did not know the assailant, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators subsequently identified a suspect in the incident.
Cassim Cummings, of Toronto, is wanted for assault causing bodily harm.
He is described as 5’-foot-10, about 165 pounds, with a thin build, short black hair and a black beard.
Anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts is urged to call police at 416-808-3200 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Man, 26, accused of breaking into Markham home
A 26-year-old man has been charged for a residential break-and-enter in Markham earlier this month.
York Regional Police say officers responded to the report of a break-and-enter in progress in the area of Old Kennedy Rd. and Steeles Ave. E. around 6:50 a.m. on Nov. 18.
Cops say the bandit entered the residence through an unlocked sliding door but was scared off when confronted by the homeowner.
Police learned the same crook tried unsuccessfully to gain access to at least two other residences in the area.
Investigators subsequently identified a suspect and arrested him on Nov. 23.
Nishanth Selvaratnam, of Markham, is charged with break-and-enter with intent, two counts of trespass at night, and breach of probation.

Police believe there may be additional victims and anticipate laying additional charges.

Trucker, 65, accused of deadly hit-and-run
York Police have charged a Whitchurch-Stouffville man, 65, with dangerous operation causing death and failing to stop causing death after a pedestrian was fatally struck in Vaughan.
On Thursday at 7:22 p.m., officers responded to reports that a pedestrian, a 62-year-old Toronto man, had been struck by a transport truck in the area of Islington Ave. and Hwy. 7.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The transport truck initially left the scene but was later located, along with the driver, in the area of Steinway Blvd. and Steeles Ave. – west of Hwy. 27 – in Etobicoke.

Investigators would like to speak to anyone who has information or who may have dashcam footage of the area around the time of the collision.

Two Oakville men accused of trafficking stolen cellphones
Two Oakville men face charges for their alleged role in trafficking $120,000 worth of Bell Canada cellphones.
Hamilton Police say in Dec. 2024 and Jan. 2025 that crooks broke into a warehouse operated by T Force Logistics in Stoney Creek and specifically targeted cellphones belonging to Bell Canada.
Working with investigators at Bell, police allegedly tracked down the stolen cellphones to Link It Up in Oakville and Amrit Electronics in Etobicoke.

Search warrants were executed at both businesses and allegedly seized 183 stolen iPhone 16 Pro Max phones (retail value $250,000-$450,000), $65,000 in Canadian currency, $4,000 in U.S. currency, 16.5 kg of silver bars worth $34,000, and stolen Corporate SIM cards used to unlock hundreds of stolen phones and packages in the name of Bell customers that had been defrauded of new iPhones by overseas scam call centres.
Navjot Singh, 38, and Puneet Singh, 45, are charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and trafficking property obtained by crime.
Puneet also faces fraud over $5,000 charges.
