Smith plays the character Bubbles on the hit Canadian TV show.

The assault is alleged to have happened in December 2017, but the charging documents do not include additional details of the allegations.

The allegations have not been proven in court.

Smith and his lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday, nor did the show’s agent and manager.

Trailer Park Boys Inc., which produces the comedy show, released a statement on Friday that said Smith had stepped away from his role as the managing director of the company.

“We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take such matters seriously,” the statement said. “We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case.”

A person who answered the door at a lakeside house in Dartmouth that is listed in court records confirmed that Smith lives there but declined to comment, per the Globe & Mail.

Trailer Park Boys has been airing since 2001.

Smith’s Bubbles character is known as a loveable guy who wears coke-bottle glasses and lives in a shed with kittens.

Production recently finished on the 13th season with a planned release timed to the show’s 25th anniversary in spring 2026.

Smith was arrested and charged in 2016 with misdemeanor domestic battery in Los Angeles over an alleged incident involving a woman at a Hollywood hotel.

He denied those allegations, describing what happened as a “loud and heated dispute” with a friend.

The public attorney’s office said a month later that it had dropped the charges.
