Are pop-star Tate McRae and NHL superstar Jack Hughes dating?

It’s a question being posed on various corners of the internet — as well as in publications like Teen Vogue and Yahoo — after a photo purported to be McRae and Hughes dining together began to circulate online late last week.

According to the celebrity gossip site DeuxMoi, which posted the photo, the two were spotted enjoying dinner together at Anton’s in New York’s West Village last Thursday night.

A source told DeuxMoi: “The entire restaurant was staring” at the pair and Hughes “seemed nervous … was looking around a lot when they first sat down.”

The photo, which has not been verified by the pop star, the hockey star or any of their reps, shows what appears to be Hughes in a white T-shirt and black tuque, while the woman said to be McRae sits directly across from the athlete. The woman, whose face cannot be seen in the photo, is wearing a red shirt and black pants.

“Tate McRae on date with guy (had a broken arm/wrist at Anton’s tn in west village!” says the caption alongside the photo that has since gone viral.

Hughes injured hand at team dinner

There are no sharp objects visible near Hughes in the photo and that might be viewed as a good thing. The New Jersey Devils forward suffered a hand injury at a team dinner in Chicago on Nov. 13. It’s believed Hughes cut his hand in what the Devils described as a “fluke accident.”

The centre underwent a successful procedure on his finger and was expected to miss about eight weeks, possibly returning to game action in January.

Hughes, a 24-year-old who was the first overall pick in 2019, rocketed out of the starting gate this season with 10 goals and 20 points in 17 games for the Devils before the injury.

McRae, a 22-year-old from Calgary, this summer ended her relationship with Australian rapper The Kid LAROI (real name Kenneth Howard.) They had been dating since January 2024.

McRae previously dated hockey player

The greedy hitmaker dated Columbus Blue Jackets forward Cole Sillinger starting in 2021. They split in 2023.

McRae grew up in a hockey family. Her brother, Tucker, played junior hockey with the Okotoks Oilers of the British Columbia Hockey League and is currently with Dartmouth College.

The pop star’s sophomore album, Think Later, features a photo of her wearing a tank top, panties and goalie pads.

She performed at the 2024 NHL All-Star Game in Toronto, where, despite being injured and not playing, Hughes served as co-captain for Team Hughes alongside his brother, Vancouver Canucks star Quinn Hughes.

Jack was born in Florida, but played his minor hockey in the GTA, where he was raised while his dad, Jim, served as the Maple Leafs’ director of player development.
