After it was reported that the conservative activist did not survive Wednesday’s daytime shooting at Utah Valley University, King responded to a post from Fox News’ Jesse Watters that referred to Kirk as a “patriot,” not a “controversial or polarizing man.”

The best-selling author reshared Watters’ post, adding, “He advocated stoning gays to death. Just sayin’.”
That set many people on social media off, including Cruz, who called King “a horrible, evil, twisted liar.”
The Texas senator went on to state that Kirk “did not” advocating the stoning of homosexuals and asked, “Why are you so dishonest and filled with hate?”
Others called King a “decrepit liar” and asked him to show receipts on when the Turning Point founder said such a hateful comment.

“Show us when Charlie ever said that,” White House staffer Sebastian Gorka wrote on X.
“When you can’t, publicly apologize to his widow Erika, and Charlie’s children.”
The horror writer has since deleted his post, admitted he was wrong, and apologized numerous times while reposting those who called him out.

“The horrible, evil, twisted liar apologizes,” he wrote while sharing Cruz’s message. “This is what I get for reading something on Twitter without fact-checking. Won’t happen again.”

King apologized again, reiterating that “Charlie Kirk never advocated stoning gays to death,” while sharing a post from author Colin Wright that read, “No he didn’t and it’s exactly this kind of extreme rhetoric that encourages people to commit violence.”
However, many continued to lambaste King for sharing the unchecked message, commenting that it is too little, too late, and the misinformation has already been widely spread.
“You should do your research before you decide to smear the name of a good man,” commentator Ian Miles Cheong wrote.
“Now German media is regurgitating the lies you told about Charlie Kirk as if they’re factual.”

“Don’t you realize this means nothing now? You’ve already mobilized an entire population of deranged lunatics who will kill you for disagreeing with them because people like YOU make them feel justified in doing so,” she seethed.
“You’re the monster.”
One X user lauded King for publicly acknowledging his mistake but asked the novelist, “If you were so sure of this, and your convictions came from reading someone else’s post on here, could there be other things you hold similarly strong convictions of that are also wrong?”

Kirk was struck in the neck by a single gunshot while debating with students about gun violence in America.
The 31-year-old was rushed to a local hospital, and was later pronounced dead.
A suspect is in custody, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who authorities say had grown “more political” in the run-up to the shooting and had indicated to family his opposition to the viewpoints of the conservative activist.
He is believed to have acted alone and the investigation is ongoing.
